Navaratri 2016 Festival
- Chichester Vedic Society organised the Navaratri 2016 celebrations at Donnington Parish Hall, Donnington. It was celebrated in traditional Indian style.
- Navaratri is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu deity Goddess Durga (the Goddess of Power).
- The event was a huge success as it was attended by about 100 adults and 30-35 children, all dressed in colourful Indian style dresses and outfits, leaving behind the stresses of daily lives. They all came and joined together for prayers and Ma Goddess Blessings.
- This year we had not 1 but 2 Chief Guests: Chichester Mayor Mr Peter Budge and Crawley Mayor Mr Raj Sharma. Both the Mayors enjoyed the cultural activities on the day.
- The day started with Pooja (prayers) from 10am. This was conducted by local priest and was done in traditional Indian style and Havan was also performed with rituals.
- There were other activities like Live Bharatnatayam dance by children, organised by dance teacher and potter Mrs Vidya Thirunarayan.
- Other activities were Poorna Vidya for children by Hindu Samajam and also fun activity of making Clay Ganesha, which children really enjoyed.
- Other highlights of the day were Garbha gujarati dance on the beats of Live Garbha Music, followed by Dhandhia. The food (Mahaprasaad) was sponsored by Thyme & Chillies traditional Indian Restaurant. The activities concluded by 4:00pm.
The event is finished.
