  • Various Indian Cultural groups (Balagokulam, Hampshire and West Sussex Hindu Cultural Society, Chichester Vedic Cultural Society and Vidya Thirunarayan) from the region of West Sussex and Hampshire in the South of UK, have joined hands together to present the rich Indian Festival ‘HOLI’ which is festival of colours.
  • Holi , the festival of colour, is a traditional Indian festival, celebrated across the country and among Indian origins across world with pompous festivities.
  • There are two parts of the festival. Part one is to celebrate the win of the good over evil.
  • The Hindu mythology behind it tells how God Vishnu saved his follower Prahlada from a pyre while Prahlada’s evil aunt Holika burned. The night before the Holi festival a Holika bonfire is burned to celebrate the victory of good over evil.

Part two of the festival is about love, forgiveness and unification. The Hindu mythology behind this is about unification of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha by throwing colours to each other and to people around themselves. Holi festival marks the arrival of spring, end of winter. It is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest.
